The term Ash Wednesday, the Catholic Church is the first day of Lent in preparation for Easter.
On this day the priest scatter a pinch of holy ash on the foreheads of the faithful to remind them of the transience of earthly life and to spur efforts penitential season of Lent. The gesture is accompanied by a formula of warning, the choice between two options: "You are dust and dust you shall return" or "convert and believe the gospel."

We come back to the origins of human history, when the Lord said to Adam after the Fall: "By the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until you return to the earth, so that from it you were taken into dust thou art and dust you shall return "(Gen 3:19). The word of God reminds us of our fragility, our death, which is the extreme form, inviting us to the realism and wisdom, but also pushing us to understand that the man will return to dust, but a precious dust in the eyes of God, because God created man for immortality. Thanks to Jesus who wanted to share with everyone the fate of the fragile, through his death on the cross, that death was the way to the resurrection, through which Christ has become a source of grace given to those who believe in him and are to share in the divine life itself.
